Taco Stuffed Peppers

For a festive Halloween dinner this year, I decided to take my amateur carving skills to vegetables and make taco stuffed peppers. The jack o lantern faces get a bit droopy after baking, but I suppose it adds to the character of the final product! These are definitely going on our regular menu, jack o lantern faces omitted, because they were delicious! A tip for making these over the top good? UseĀ  Continue reading

Lollipop Ghosts

Happy Halloween (yesterday)!! I hope everyone had a spooky fun holiday and got to enjoy a little sugar without the guilt! My initial goal for these lollipop ghosts was to have them completed by October 30th; that would have been nicer than making them an hour before trick or treat on October 31st while cooking a festive dinner simultaneously, but such is life in a busy home! To accomplish the ghost assembly task under our new timeline, I had to Continue reading

Dark Chocolate Halloween Cookies

A few days ago I shared last year’s healthy Halloween treat (jack o lantern oranges) on Facebook making the comment we should save the sugar for the Christmas cookies. I’ll have to request you look past that comment as I now write about the Halloween cookies we made yesterday that are clearly filled with that exact ingredient. In my defense, my thirteen year old stepdaughter Continue reading

Southwest Chicken Tortilla Pinwheels

We’ve been blessed with many good cooks in our family which means family gatherings of any sort are not events you leave feeling hungry. Let’s take the most recent example for instance; we visited my grandparents’ house to can salsa and for lunch had homemade vegetable soup, crackers, our pick between five lunch meats and various toppings to make sandwiches and homemade apple pie. That’s in addition to the Continue reading

Canning Homemade Salsa

LastĀ weekend I had the opportunity to learn how to make and can salsa with my parents and Grandma. Although I was excited to try something new in the kitchen, I have to say my favorite part of the day was spending time with family. I love my grandparents’ house; I spent a lot of time there growing up so it’s filled with memories and has that comforting feeling you get when you ‘go home’. One of the other great things about their house is Continue reading

Make Your Own S’mores Bar

To say this summer has flown by may just be the understatement of the year! It’s been an eventful season for our family for many good reasons and a few less than good ones too. I’m going to write about the best reasons and keep praying for the less fortunate ones. Remember theĀ kate spade baby shower? My adorable little niece was born a month and a half later on June 17th! My husband and I spent many hours at the hospital anxiously awaiting her arrival, but by Continue reading

Kate Spade Inspired Baby Shower

When I married my husband, I gained a lot of wonderful family members who made me feel like family long before it became official. In that mix is two wonderful sisters. One (Tiffany) already has children, the cutest little boy and girl, and the second one (Danielle) is now a mommy to be who is Continue reading

Old English Casserole

The past month has been busy to say the least! Between wedding and baby shower festivities, my weekends have been packed and flying by quicker than usual! All the planning and attending of events put a halt to writing the past few weeks as I learned I’m actually not superwoman and just can’t do it all! It was completely Continue reading

Kitchen Themed Bridal Shower Gift

My best friend’s bridal shower is this weekend and I’m so looking forward to celebrating with her! In addition to ‘saying yes to the dress’ and receiving your first RSVP to the wedding, this is another milestone that makes the whole experience begin to feel “really real”. If you’ve been a bride, you understand that phrase! The bridal shower is a wonderful event where you get to Continue reading

Carrot Cake Cookies

I’ll be honest with you, finding time to try new recipes for this blog I love so dearly has been a challenge lately. It gets stressful at times feeling like I always have to choose how to spend my time, because I know there’s not enough to go around for everything. That’s where priorities come in and sometimes family, good books and relaxing have to be placed first and blogging comes fourth. It’s currently 10:30 PM as I’m writing this and if you know me at all, you know that’s certainly past my bedtime; I’ve never been much of a night owl. On top of this problem with time I’ll never be able to solve, I’ve also had some ‘Pinterest fails’ and less than ideal photos in my kitchen the past few weeks. It can become a bit discouraging if you let it (sometimes I do, guilty), but it’s also Continue reading
