Appetizers and Snacks

Roasted Cranberry and Brie Crostini

You know what makes it challenging to focus and write? A puppy who has loads of energy at 8:30 PM sprinting in circles around the living room and up and down the couch you’re “relaxing” on! I’m talking about our little Max of course, the cute puppy who made his blogging debut in my Canning Homemade Salsa post. He’s already doubled in size weighing in at a whopping 6.5 pounds these days! The good news? Puppies play hard and then sleep hard so although it may have taken me twice as long to write 100 words tonight he is now snuggled on the couch ready to nap! And on that note, let’s talk about cranberries and my excitement to have them back in season! I wish I could make the cranberry season last longer, but I have gotten wiser this year thanks to my Grandma and will be Continue reading

Southwest Chicken Tortilla Pinwheels

We’ve been blessed with many good cooks in our family which means family gatherings of any sort are not events you leave feeling hungry. Let’s take the most recent example for instance; we visited my grandparents’ house to can salsa and for lunch had homemade vegetable soup, crackers, our pick between five lunch meats and various toppings to make sandwiches and homemade apple pie. That’s in addition to the Continue reading

Avocado Caprese Toast

Avocado Caprese toast is a perfect snack and, for me, one I made in the Winter to pretend for just a moment it was Summer! I discovered this ‘recipe’ a few days ago and didn’t want to wait for warmer weather to give it a try. I’m really looking forward to making it again with straight from the garden ingredients. Didn’t I just talk about time flying in my last post? So is it June yet? Continue reading

Crockpot Buffalo Chicken

You’ll probably want to revisit this crockpot buffalo chicken recipe on Sunday. Not only is it a great dish to serve during football games, but by the time we reach this particular Sunday, you may just want anything besides Thanksgiving leftovers when it feels as if you can’t eat another bite of turkey! It’s easy for me to think and say Continue reading

Homemade Chex Mix

Chex mix is a favorite Fall snack in my family and one my Mom graciously makes for us around the holidays every year; in my opinion, no store bought chex mix tastes as good! We recently had our family over for the now annual Fantasy Football draft, a fun new tradition my husband’s stepdad started, and although the start time was a little later in the evening I still wanted to have some snacks available for us to munch on. Chex mix sounded perfect and Continue reading

Strawberry, Blueberry & Jicama Salsa

What’s Jicama? That was my first question when I found this great salsa recipe over at the Two Peas & their Pod blog! Naturally, I turned to Google for the answer. Remind me again what we did before the internet and search engines existed? Perhaps lived simpler lives 🙂 Jicama, sometimes called the Mexican yam or turnip and pronounced ‘hic-ema’, is a root vegetable that looks similar to a potato; it adds the perfect Continue reading

My ‘Go To’ Appetizer: Veggie Pizza

I have found this veggie pizza to be quite the ‘crowd pleaser’ at parties and within our home! I’ve made it several times and much like the s’more cups, I never have leftovers to bring home or put back in the fridge. Bonus, even my picky step daughter likes this one…as long as there’s no cauliflower on her pieces that is! The other great thing about this veggie pizza is Continue reading

Avocado Crostini

First of all, are you wondering what a crostini is exactly? When I found this recipe from another great blog, Joyful Healthy Eats , via Pinterest I thought “Avocado Crostini? I have no idea what that means, but it looks delicious!” Now that I have tried it and must share as well I decided to look up the definition of Crostini and it all makes sense now: ‘Crostino is an Continue reading

Avocado Salsa

Chips are a bit of a weakness of mine…I love them on their own, in nachos, dips, salsas, queso….you get it. So when I find a recipe to incorporate them in a healthier way, it’s a win! This salsa will be especially perfect in the Summer; it has a great refreshing taste and beautiful vibrant colors! Continue reading
